Have you ever wanted to know what the secret is to having unstoppable confidence? A confidence born from the inner assurance that God will always come through for you? This unstoppable confidence comes from knowing He cannot deny Himself.

This truth comes from Second Timothy 2:13: “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.” (CSB) Knowing God cannot deny Himself creates a confident boldness in a believer’s spirit. This is the secret to unshakable confidence.

What Does It Mean That He Cannot Deny Himself?

In theology, this is called the immutability of God. It is the knowledge God is unchanging in His nature, character, will, and covenant promises.

Paul put it much more simply to Timothy when he wrote: “He cannot deny Himself.” God is always true to Himself. He never changes.

In Malachi 3:6 God says, speaking of Himself, “For I am the LORD, I do not change.
Our Lord doesn’t change any part of himself. His nature and character are always consistent. He is dependable in every way.

I am sure you have met people that change constantly. Their very character and nature are inconsistent. They change with every cultural whim.

You find them undependable because they don’t behave the same way each time a similar situation occurs. You find them to be unpredictable, irregular, and illogical.

Not so with God. He never changes. His character and nature are always consistent. God cannot deny Himself. He can’t deny His inherent nature and character.

Unlike people, we can depend on our Lord to be consistent. He will not change.

Why Is It Important That God Never Changes?

It is important for us to know that God never changes. In similar circumstances, He will always act in the same way. He doesn’t respond differently in similar situations.

His response is the same for all people in that situation. He cannot deny Himself. As Paul wrote in Second Timothy 2:13, “If we are faithless, he remains faithful.

His response isn’t dependent upon us. God will always act in a manner that is consistent with His nature. Even if we act in a faithless manner, God is always faithful.

God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill. (Numbers 23:19 CSB)

Why is it important that God never changes? Because He cannot deny Himself, we can have faith in Him. We can have faith in God’s nature and character because it never changes.
Our Lord is always faithful, merciful, and loving. This never changes. He doesn’t lie and doesn’t change His mind. What God says He will do, He will do. When God makes a promise, He fulfills it.

There is no “I wonder what God will do?” For we can have solid faith in the fact He will do what He said He will do.

Therefore, God will act in love and mercy when He said he will. It also means He will act in judgment when He said He would.

He cannot deny Himself. God will always act in a manner that is consistent with His nature and character.

What Does It Mean for Me “He Cannot Deny Himself?”

What does it mean for me when scripture says: “He cannot deny Himself?” How does that affect me and my life?

Hebrews 11:6 says, Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Because He cannot deny Himself, we can have absolute faith in His nature, character, and words. We know with certainty God will always act in accordance to Who He is.

God will always respond the same way to our faith or lack of faith. He doesn’t change according to the whim of His feelings or current culture.

This means we can live by faith as He has commanded us to do. Our Lord, the Almighty God, is the one sure thing in all of creation.

Our God has been the same God throughout all eternity. He doesn’t change. Our Lord is always consistent.

Unshakable Confidence Through Knowing God Can’t Deny Himself

Knowing our God and that he cannot deny Himself gives us unshakable confidence. The knowledge that god is always faithful and unchanging in His nature and character allows us to have faith built on a solid foundation.

We can be sure of Who our Lord is and what He will do in any circumstance. This allows our faith to have unshakable confidence.

This Is a Call for Us to Be Faithful

Let me quote Second Timothy 2:13 for you again. “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.” (CSB)

This verse emphasizes the faithfulness of God. His faithfulness is not dependent upon us. He is faithful regardless of what we do.

The previous verse says, “If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us.” God is faithful to respond the same way in every similar situation.

The Lord is faithful to respond the same way if we deny Him; He will deny us. Then, if we will endure in faith, He is faithful to let us reign with Him.

God is faithful and provides grace for us. He allows for us to miss the mark and sin. Even when we don’t deserve it. There is a difference between trying to work our way to heaven and ignoring God to live in unrepentant sin. We can never merit heaven or salvation; but we can disrespect grace.

This passage in Second Timothy is the call for faithfulness. To be faithful to God. A call to be faithful to His Word. And a call to be faithful to who He created us to be.

Look at the world around you and faithlessness is running wild. We are the salt and the light in the earth. We are called to be the faithful.

It Should Be Said of Us: “He cannot Deny Himself”

As believers, we are to reach the point where people say of us: “He cannot deny himself.” We must be faithful to who we are in Christ.

As we grow and mature in Christ, we should become more faithful to who we are. Search the scriptures. There are at least one hundred and thirty scriptures in the New Testament that speak of who we are in Christ.

Read them and learn them. Make them a part of who you are in Christ. Incorporate them into your spiritual DNA. Make them a spiritual habit that shows in your every word and action.
In these end times, God is calling forth a faithful remnant. A Church that will never deny Him, regardless of the circumstances.

The Lord wants a church full of Daniel’s, Gideon’s, David’s, and all those listed in Hebrews chapter eleven. Rise up and be the one that the world speaks of saying, “He cannot deny himself. He or she is just like their Lord, God Almighty.
