Faith Is Our Servant: The Key To Your Great Faith

Are you like me and prayed for God to increase your faith? I found the key to great faith is knowing faith is our servant. We are to command our faith.

I remember asking God for more faith. I wanted great faith, like Oral Roberts and Smith Wigglesworth. My desire was based upon wanting to do more for the Kingdom of God. Eventually, through Bible study, I learned that faith is our servant. This changed my entire perspective about believing God’s promises.

Did you know you can command your faith and it will obey? God’s word tells us faith is our servant. Knowing how to command your faith is the key to having great faith. Anyone can develop great faith when they know this secret.

When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony.” He said to him, “Am I to come and heal him?” “Lord,” the centurion replied, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith. (Matthew 8:5-10 CSB)

This is the faith that amazed Jesus. Of all people, a Roman Centurion, the greatest faith in all of Israel. He understood Jesus only had to speak the word and command His faith for it to work.

This centurion heard about Jesus and His teaching, preaching, and healing. He may have listened to Jesus teach before this. As one who commands troops and servants, this centurion recognized what Jesus was doing with His faith.

It amazed Jesus, a centurion, not an Israelite, understood this. Later in His ministry, Jesus taught His disciples this concept of great faith.

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,” the Lord said, “you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you. “Which one of you having a servant tending sheep or plowing will say to him when he comes in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? Instead, will he not tell him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat, get ready, and serve me while I eat and drink; later you can eat and drink’? Does he thank that servant because he did what was commanded?’” (Luke 17:5-9 CSB)

The apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus answers their request by teaching them faith is their servant. The principle here is that the size of your faith isn’t what makes the difference. The difference is how we use our faith.

We have the concept that our faith must be large to do great things. Jesus says that our faith can be the size of a small seed and it can still do great things.

Faith Is Our Servant

Faith is our servant. We are to command our faith and keep it working until the job is done. That is what a servant does. He keeps working until he has met all his master’s needs. Only then can the servant rest.

The more we understand this principle, the greater our faith will be. Our faith will do what we command it to do.

Notice how Jesus taught the disciples to release their faith. “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,” the Lord said, “you can say…”

The key is in what you say. Words activate faith. We speak to our faith, saying…
Speaking what the Word says about the situation is an essential element of using your faith as a servant. Once you find God’s will for the situation, you speak only what God says.

The reason for this, is God’s Word is truth.

The facts are the current situation. The Truth is what God says about your situation. Facts can change, but the Truth never changes.

Activating Your Faith

What do you say to activate your faith? You say the desired result. You say what God says about your situation.

There are three simple steps to activating your faith.

Three Easy Steps to Activate Your Faith

  • Find in your Bible what God says about your situation.
  • Speak what God says about your situation.
  • Command your faith to bring about the desired result.

Let’s take a real-life example to apply this principle to. You are having trouble sleeping at night. Every night you toss and turn while your mind is racing one hundred miles an hour.

So, you go to your Bible and find scriptures that promise sleep. Promises like:

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant. (Proverbs 3:24 CSB)

I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety. (Psalm 4:8 CSB)

Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7 CSB)

You read and meditate on these scriptures daily. Allow them to build faith in your spirit.

Next, you speak about what God says concerning your situation.

“God promises me pleasant sleep. I do not toss and turn, but quickly fall asleep and sleep through the night. I will not worry because I have cast my cares upon the Lord for, He cares for me.”

Finally, after meditating these scriptures and speaking what God says about your sleep, you command your faith to cause you to sleep.

“Body, when I lay down, I command you to relax and fall asleep. Mind, you will stop this useless worrying. God handles all our care. Father, I thank you for sleep. In Jesus name. Amen.”

This is how you use your faith like a servant. From then on, you say nothing but what the Word says about your situation.

It Works for Those Who Work It

This will work for you. All you need to do is to work it. Take your time with each step. Don’t shortcut the process and don’t rush it. As you meditate on the scriptures you found, allow them to build faith in you.

God said we can command our faith like a servant. Therefore, we can do it. If you fail, repent, get up, and do it again. You keep doing it until you succeed.

Then every success makes the next time easier. The time will come, and you will look back and realize your faith is greater than when you started.

Keep doing the process and every year your faith will be greater and more obedient. Just don’t forget to praise God for each success.

The Challenge

I challenge you to find something in your life that doesn’t match up with God’s promises. Do the process and see what happens. It will change your life.
