“Faith begins where the will of God is known.” F. F. Bosworth
Faith, that all vital component of the Christian’s life. Every believer knows faith is important. In fact, we are told in Hebrews 11:6, “Now without faith it is impossible to please God…” (CSB)
The scripture in the book of Hebrews says it is impossible. Not hard or difficult. Impossible. Therefore, we must have faith if we are a Christian.
Yet, do we know where faith comes from or even if we have faith? If we can’t please God without faith, these are important questions to answer.
Faith Begins by Knowing You Have Faith
The first step is to know without a doubt that you have faith. We are told in Ephesians 2:8, “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift.” (CSB)
If you are saved (born again) then you must have faith. And if we can’t be saved without it, where does faith come from? It is God’s gift. Romans 12:3 tells us God has given every believer the measure of faith. This means every one of us starts with the same measure of faith. You no longer need to question whether you have faith. This verse assures us that as Christians we have faith.

Faith Begins By Knowing Where Faith Comes From
“But” you ask, “How do I get more faith?” That is an excellent question. Where does the faith God gives us come from? Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (NKJV)
We get faith from the Word of God. Whether it is from preaching, teaching, or reading the Word of God, it doesn’t matter. God’s Word is our only source of faith. No Word equals us having no faith.
This lets us know the importance of receiving God’s Word daily. This is more than a simple devotion. It means there will be some studying involved. God doesn’t tell us to just read His Word. He said, “Be diligent (study) to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 CSB)
We are to diligently study the scriptures so we can know them and teach them correctly. It is this diligent study that reveals to us God’s promises in His Word. Our knowledge of the Word gives us the faith we need.
Faith Begins Where the Will of God is Known
Where do we find the will of God? We find God telling us about His will in His Word. God tells us about His will in the pages of our Bible. Faith comes by reading His will in His Word.
That is the key to faith. Find what God says about the subject, test, trial, or whatever, and then believe God for the expected outcome. That is why we study the Bible, so we can find God’s will.
An Example: Finding the Will of God for Sleeplessness
Let’s say that we cannot sleep. First, we need to identify the cause of our sleeplessness. Is it a physical problem such as sleep apnea, allergies, or loss of melatonin due to age?
If it is a physical problem, then we would need to study healing scriptures. Let’s say in our case, it isn’t a physical problem. Then it would be a mental or emotional problem, such as worry or grief.
In this example, our problem is worry. So, we need to study scriptures about worry such as this from 1 Peter 5:7. “Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.” (CSB) There is also Matthew 6:25-34 where Jesus gives us a cure for worry. Add in Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (CSB)
Now we have found God’s answer to our worry. We need to meditate on these scriptures until they become deeply rooted in our heart.

God’s Promises for Sleep
Next, we find scriptures where God promises us sleep.
- Proverbs 3:24 “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant.” (CSB)
- Psalm 127:2b “Yes, he gives sleep to the one he loves.” (CSB)
- Psalm 3:5 “I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me.” (CSB)
- Psalm 4:8 “I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.” (CSB)
When the Will of God is Known, then Faith Begins
We have found the will of God concerning worry and our sleeplessness. Meditate on the scriptures so they take root deep in your heart. Because we know the will of God concerning worry and sleeplessness, we can now apply our faith for sleep. We can do this same process for every promise of God we need to activate in our life.
The Challenge
I challenge you to attack every problem, test, or trial in your life the same way we did with sleeplessness. First, find the will of God. Then use your faith to believe for God’s will to happen in your life.
Using this simple formula, we can attack every problem in our life one by one. It will create a change in us physically, mentally, emotionally, and so spiritually. When the will of God is known, we can change our relationships, our health, and financial condition.
