In this article, I will teach you seven steps to becoming a bold Christian. Within every child of God, there is a lion. He is the Lion of Judah, and His name is Jesus. Once you discover the Lion in you, boldness comes much easier.

So, what is a bold Christian?

A bold Christian isn’t afraid to live by God’s standards, as stated in His Word, regardless of what other people think, say, or do. This is the boldness that comes from a relationship with Christ, resulting in courage, strength, and purpose.

So, let’s look at the seven steps and I will then explain each one.

7 Steps to Becoming a Bold Christian

  1. Recognize our boldness as a Christian comes from humility
  2. Spend time in daily Bible study and prayer
  3. Don’t compare yourself to others
  4. Spend time with bold Christians
  5. Set goals and actually do something
  6. Refuse to live in fear
  7. Make praise a lifestyle

A Bold Christian: 5 Benefits for You Being One

Our Boldness as a Christian Comes From Humility

But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6 CSB)

When you study grace in the Bible, you quickly notice it is grace that enables Christians. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit provides us with power, and God gave us the Holy Spirit through grace. Remember, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a gift. (see: Ephesians 4:8)

We are humble when we recognize everything we are and everything we can do is because of Jesus. Once we are born again, our whole being and existence are in God.

For in him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28)

The first step to boldness is having the humility to recognize everything we are is because of the Lord. True boldness is centered on living for Jesus. We must realize we cannot be bold on our own, which requires humility.

Genuine humility is submitting yourself to God and His ways. It is recognizing that God has a better way and a better plan for your life. It is from humility our boldness grows.

Why humility? Because when we are humble, we realize how much we need God. Our complete reliance upon God then causes us to be bold. We are recognizing His power working through us.

This dependence upon His power instead of our power brings out the boldness from within. It allows God’s power to shine through us as God intended.

Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. (Ephesians 4:7 CSB)

Spend Time in Daily Bible Study and Prayer

We cannot place enough emphasis on these two Christian disciplines. They are vital for our success as believers.

Bible Study Teaches Us God’s Ways

First, knowing God’s Word is critical for our success and prosperity. This is exactly what God told Joshua.

This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. (Joshua 1:8 CSB)

It is in His Word that God shows us His ways. God’s way is always the best. Along with His ways, we also learn of God’s character and attributes in His Word.

God, first and foremost, guides us through His Word. It shows us the path we must take as we live our life.

Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105 CSB)

The Word of God is also called the Word of Life. We are to live by the Word of God. It is our spiritual food. This is the reason it is so necessary to have a daily dose of the Word.

It is God’s Word that gives us the confidence we are on the right path. This confidence becomes boldness.

By holding firm to the word of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing. (Philippians 2:16 CSB)

Prayer Reveals What God Is Doing

Daily prayer is important. It is when we are in our prayer closet alone with God that He shows us what he is doing. This is what He did with Jesus.

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son likewise does these things. (John 5:19 CSB)

Jesus continuously spent time alone with The Father in prayer, often all night long. (see: Matthew 14:23; Luke 5:16; Luke 6:12)

In His time alone with The Father, God showed Jesus what He was doing and what Jesus was to do. This type of direction from our Lord doesn’t happen when praying while doing other things.

This direction happens only when we are alone with The Father not just talking, but also actively listening for His still, small voice.

When you come out of your prayer closet with a directive from God, then you are confident and, therefore, you walk with boldness.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

This is a problem everyone must conquer. It is a very human action to compare ourselves with others. We look at what they have, what they wear, and what they accomplish, then we compare ourselves to them.

Sometimes we do this with those we think we are better than to lift ourselves up. Often, we do this to compare ourselves with those that appear to be better in our eyes, therefore robbing ourselves of confidence and the ability to be bold.

God speaks directly about comparing ourselves with others in Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

Let each person examine his own work, and then he can take pride in himself alone, and not compare himself with someone else. For each person will have to carry his own load. (Galatians 6:4–5 CSB)

Each one of us is incomparable. God has given each of us unique gifts and talents for us to do a unique job in the Kingdom of God.

When we understand our uniqueness, then we can move forward and be who the Lord has called us to be. We need to stop robbing ourselves by doing comparisons.

Then we can be bold and move forward into the calling God has given each of us.

Spend Time with Bold Christians

“Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.” Booker T. Washington

Who we spend time with is very important. If we associate with those that have loose morals, our morals will drop to their level. If we spend time with those who are hungry for the Word of God, our hunger will grow.

We need to choose our friends and companions carefully. This is not to say you can’t hang out with sinners. We need to spend time with them to show them the love of God.

This is to say we need to carefully choose those we call our friends and spend a lot of time with.

The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. (Proverbs 12:26 NKJV)
Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17 CSB)

If you would like more boldness in your life, make friends with those that are bold. Spend time with them and soon you will be doing the same, maybe not in the same way, but bold in your unique way.

Goals List

Set Goals and Actually Do Something

Most people never accomplish anything in their lifetime because they don’t set any goals. Without setting a goal, there is no target in their life and they spend a lifetime aimlessly wandering.

All of us know people like this. They talk about what they will do someday, but never actually do anything. Next thing they know, they’re in their senior years with nothing to show for it.
God tells us to set goals.

The Lord answered me: Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it. (Habakkuk 2:2 CSB)
The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor. (Proverbs 21:5 CSB)
I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14 CSB)

Our one single overarching goal should be the same as Paul – the prize of accomplishing our heavenly call in Christ Jesus. What is the prize? Eternal life.

Yet, many other goals are worthy for a Christian to pursue and attain. They include prayer and Bible study, family salvation, people witnessed to, conquer fear or worry, and many more.

Setting goals is important for becoming a bold Christian.

There are a few things necessary for a goal to be an actual goal.

  • It must be measurable.
  • It must make sense.
  • It must be achievable.
  • It must have a specific time.
  • It must be written down in clear language.

Start setting goals and you will see yourself accomplishing things in your life and for the Kingdom of God.

Refuse to Live in Fear

Many Christians are bound by fear in one or more areas of their life. This is not how God intended us to live our life.

Here are two of my favorite scriptures concerning fear:

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and rescued me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4 CSB)
The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—whom should I dread? (Psalm 27:1 CSB)

I want you to notice the first scripture says the Lord has delivered us from ALL our fears. That is all-inclusive, meaning every one of our fears.

The second scripture from Psalm 27 specifically speaks to the fear of what a person or persons can do to you.

We are to fear nothing. Neither an event, things, nor people. With God, you are a majority regardless of how many are against you.

If you are experiencing fear of anything in your life, then start finding scriptures concerning fear and meditating upon them. Keep doing this until you are free of fear.

Do you need to know more about meditation on scripture? Read my article HERE:

Meditate Scripture | The Next Essential Step to Your Successful Life

As an adult, I developed a fear of heights. Because I knew that commands us to not fear, I took these scriptures and sought out every high place I could find. I would then look down and keep saying the scriptures. I did this until I conquered my fear of heights.

The one fear many Christians experience is the fear of sharing the Gospel. I believe this stems from our innate fear of rejection.

This must change. We are sharing Good News when we share the Gospel. If you discovered a common ingredient that cured cancer, would you refuse to share it with everyone that needed it?
I think not. You would probably go out of your way to share it with everyone you can find that needed a cure for cancer.

Sharing the Gospel is even more important than that. We are sharing the only way to eternal life. Let that sink in.

If we don’t share the Gospel, people will go to hell for eternity.

Conquer your fear and begin to share the Gospel today. This is the mark of a believer becoming a bold Christian.

Make Praise a Lifestyle

Making praise a lifestyle is one of the most important things we can do towards becoming bold Christians. To be a lifestyle includes our habits, thoughts, attitudes, moral standards, and every aspect of our life.

What does praise mean in the context of worshiping God?

Praise means to honor and show reverence to our Lord. It also means to regard Him with extravagant devotion, respect, and honor.

We can praise in many ways. You can praise Him in prayer, song, or verbally in speech. It is also done with our body in what we do and how we live. Paul explained it this way in his letter to the Roman Christians.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. (Romans 12:1 CSB)

True worship is presenting your body as a living sacrifice. This goes from words of praise only to a lifestyle of praise in every aspect.

To become a bold Christian, you must cultivate a lifestyle of praise.

Jesus is the Lion and the Lamb
Jesus is the Lion and the Lamb

The Lion and the Lamb

It can be hard to imagine Jesus as both a Lion and a Lamb. The lamb invokes an image of one that is meek and mild; an innocent one. And Jesus is all of that.

He came to earth to be our sacrificial Lamb. But, when Jesus returns, He will be the Lion of Judah. He will avenge the martyrs and reign as King over the earth.

The next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:35–36 CSB)
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so that he is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5 CSB)

It has been easy for Christians to identify with the Lamb of God. Now it is time to recognize the Lion of Judah dwelling in you. As the Lion, Jesus conquered temptation, sin, death, pain, fear, and worry. He triumphed over the devil.

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them in him. (Colossians 2:15 CSB)

We need to recognize the Lion of Judah resides in us for us to become bold Christians. Know that we have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead flowing through us.

Our spiritual DNA carries within it the power and ability to be bold Christians. Discover the Lion in you.

Make the decision right now to become the bold Christian God called you to be. Discover the Lion in you.

When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city officials, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too.” (Acts 17:6 CSB)

Let’s become bold Christians and turn our world upside down.
