Then all your children will be taught by the Lord, their prosperity will be great. (Isaiah 54:13 CSB)
When God chose Abraham to be the father of the great nation of Israel, He had one overwhelming requirement. He required Abraham to be a teacher of his children. And his children’s children.
For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfill to Abraham what he promised him. (Genesis 18:19 CSB)
Parents teaching their children is how God will fulfill his covenant promises from generation to generation. God has commanded parents to teach their children through scripture.
(At the end of this devotion, you will find some of the scriptures about teaching your children listed under Additional Scriptures.)
This isn’t a suggestion or good idea from God. He commands parents and grandparents to teach their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
This is more than reading Bible stories to your children. It means we are to take scripture and teach them how to apply it to their life. God commands us to raise our children by living the scripture.
This means that when our children face a situation, we, as parents, are to take scripture and show them how to apply it to their life for the situation they are facing. This isn’t a suggestion or good idea from God. He commands parents and grandparents to teach their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
This is how our children and grandchildren learn to live in divine health, divine peace, and divine joy. Through this type of teaching, they will learn to live a spirit-led life.
Our children are to have the Word of God continually poured into their lives and hearts. We can’t just leave it to our church to do this for us.
This may not be easy but know this. God anoints every parent who trusts Him with the ability to teach their children His Word. We are without excuse. He has given us the ability to do this.
Therefore, even if you find it difficult to do, depend on the Holy Spirit and teach your children. When we do this, our children will experience great prosperity in every aspect of their life.
Prayer
Father, please help me teach my children. Holy Spirit, guide me and give me the words to say. I have determined that I will be the one to teach my children the fear of the Lord. My children and their children will prosper greatly in every aspect of their life. Thank you, Lord, for the anointing to teach my children. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
