For through faith you are all sons of God in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26 CSB)
When you were born again through making Jesus your Lord, (see Romans 10:9-10) you became a child of God. Your DNA is the same as His DNA because you were born again through the seed of His incorruptible Word. (see 1 Peter 1:23)
Are you proud to be a child of the Almighty God? Do you openly show you belong to the Heavenly Father? Or are you more of an undercover Christian hiding your identity?
I vividly remember my father showing pride in who he was. We were out hunting one cold November morning with a good friend of the family. We were walking through a harvested cornfield trying to kick up some pheasants.
Suddenly, the owner of the neighboring property appeared out of the trees bordering the cornfield. It was just after ten in the morning, and he was already drunk. He started asking who we were and where we were from because he didn’t like strangers coming up from Pittsburgh hunting around his property.
My father told him where we lived was about a mile from there. (Which, when you live in the country, means you are neighbors.) During this whole conversation, the owner of the cornfield was acting like the belligerent drunk he was.
My father asked who he was, and he replied, “I am Mr. ___ ___,” as he stepped forward to tower over my father. Then he asks my father with contempt in his voice, “And who are you?”
My father stood ramrod straight and as tall as his 5’ 8” allowed and with considerable pride said, “I am Jack Affolder!” Instantly, the other man lost his belligerence and wilted into a meek man becoming much more friendly.
It was at eleven years of age I learned the value of having pride in who you are. I know of no famous Affolders but am immensely proud to be one. I teach this same pride to my son Tyler.
I am grafted into the Affolder family as a stepson, but I consider myself an Affolder through and through. It is just like us being grafted into the family of God.
I am proud to call myself a child of the Almighty God, Creator of heaven and the earth. God chose us to be His sons and daughters before the foundation of the world.
For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him. He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. (Ephesians 1:5 CSB)
God chose us to be adopted by Him the same way my father chose me when he married my mother.
We need to rest in the assurance God purposely chose us. We are wanted and desired by our Heavenly Father. There is no better confidence than the one from being chosen.
Carry yourself with pride that you are a child of the Lord Almighty.
Prayer
Father, I thank you for choosing me before you even created the universe. I am glad you adopted me into your family and that I am a coheir with Jesus. I will carry myself with pride as one of your children. Thank you for all you have done for me through the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus.
