And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul? (Deuteronomy 10:12 CSB Emphasis is mine.)
What does the Lord ask of us? I believe the answer to this question gets confused by all the religiosity people create. People tend to focus on the outward signs instead of focusing on the heart, which is our spirit.
They make demands on what you wear, how much time you spend in prayer, and how many Bible verses you have memorized. They build man made requirements for giving, serving God, and church attendance.
God is much more simple than this. He has always looked at the heart of man and not outward appearances. Our Heavenly Father clearly states what He asks of us in Deuteronomy 10:12.
- Fear or respect Him by walking in ALL His ways. This takes care of our outward actions. When we are walking in all of God’s ways, our actions will glorify Him. If we miss the mark and sin, God just wants us to repent, accept His forgiveness, and move on.
- To love Him with everything you are. This means with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. When you love the Lord with everything you are, there is no question of whether you attend church or serve God.
- To worship Him with all your heart and soul. Worship is extravagant respect, honor, and devotion. This is far beyond the worship service in your church or playing some worship songs at home. This is continual 24/7 worship with everything you are.
What does God ask of us? ALL! He wants all of us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I love and respect You. Please forgive me in any area where I have not given 100%. From this moment forward, I give You my ALL. Everything that I am every fiber of my being. I am committed through Your grace to walking in ALL Your ways. I will love You and worship You with ALL my heart and soul. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
