Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God. For it is God’s servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. (Romans 13:1; 4b CSB)
In our current social climate, I believe most Americans have forgotten God established our military. Having a military is a valuable tool for protecting the United States.
As a veteran, I am acutely aware of society’s attitude toward the military. Too many citizens of the United States are disrespectful toward our veterans.
God appointed the military to enforce our freedom in America and as a tool for righteousness in the world. People are called to be soldiers, just as God calls people to be preachers, schoolteachers, salespeople, dentists, or every other occupation.
Those God calls to serve in the military have the anointing of being warriors. King David wrote, “He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.” (Psalm 18:34 CSB)
The Holy Spirit enables these warriors with the abilities they need to be effective in war. He also enables them to endure the horrors of war.
This Veteran’s Day, give thanks to God for our military. The sacrifice of so many soldiers over the years and through many conflicts has given us the freedom to worship God.
I encourage you to make a habit of praying for our military personnel, if not daily, at least every week. They need our prayers and support.
Also, make it a habit to pray for those that have come back from war. Especially the injured and maimed. This would include those with PTSD.
The Church is the one that should lead the nation regarding our military. We should lead the way in prayer, our voice, and our actions.
Remember your veterans this year. Give them the respect that is due to them as our country’s warrior arm of God.
Prayer
Father, I thank you for all that has served you in military service. I thank you for a powerful military. Be with those that have served in war and gave a piece of themselves doing it. Holy Spirit, provide the comfort and anointing they need to be emotionally and mentally whole. I ask you to guide our government to maintain a powerful military that is ready at a moment’s notice to enforce righteousness in the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
