Using Previous Victories As A Weapon

King David used his previous victories as a weapon against Goliath. I did the same when my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Learn how to use this powerful weapon.

Then David said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37 CSB)

I clearly remember the day my wife called me at work and asked if I could come home because the doctor diagnosed her with kidney cancer. During that twenty-minute drive, satan, the liar, started attacking me.

He would whisper in my mind over and over, “She is going to die! She going to die!” I immediately went on the offensive and started recounting out loud to that vile accuser victory after victory.

I would tell him after each reciting of a victory, “My God brought us through that. He will bring us through this.” I finally capped it off with Romans 8:37:

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Then I followed up with 1 John 5:4:

Because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.

I told satan, “It doesn’t matter what you say, because they are all lies. I know the truth. God has brought us through your attacks before and He will do it again.” When I reached home, Cindy and I came into agreement and God did it again.

I learned this tactic of using previous victories from King David. It is one of the weapons he used to defeat Goliath. Twice, God delivered him from larger, stronger, and better-equipped enemies. David knew the Lord God of Israel would deliver him again.

The next time a storm, giant, or overwhelming circumstance challenges you, remember what your Lord God has done for you in the past. Recite your previous victories to our adversary.

Then follow up with scriptures that promise you victory. Your past victories by the hand of God are a powerful weapon. They provide you with confidence and stable faith.

There are many places in scripture where Israel is reminded of all the past victories their God had given them. Even today, faithful Jews recite the story of them coming out of Egypt and all the miracles.

Use this powerful weapon next time satan brings the fight to you. When you do, you will feel faith rise up strong inside you.

Prayer

Father, I thank you for always being faithful to me. Throughout my life, you have given me victory after victory. You have promised to always be with me, and you have been there every time. I will remember my victories in my prayer and praise. Thank you for giving me an additional weapon to fight with. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I do not capitalize the name “satan” in my writing. He neither deserves the honor or respect that entails.
