My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. For they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20 and 22

I remember as I was growing up my mother telling me to eat my carrots because they are good for my eyes. She also said to drink my milk because it is good for my bones. And the liver she served was good for my blood.

As an adult, I realize these are simple instructions for a child. They only told a portion of the truth. Carrots are good for much more than just my eyes. Milk benefits me a lot more than just my bones. And liver… well, let’s just say I don’t eat liver anymore.

Sometimes we approach God’s Word in too simple of a manner as well. We talk about particular scriptures for healing. Others are for peace. These are for joy.

That is true, but it doesn’t tell all the truth. Just like my mom telling me what particular foods are good for. It is the truth, but not all the truth.

Let me interject here. I am a great believer in confessing the Word when I am facing problems. And, yes, I choose particular passages for that problem.

Just like currently. I am facing a serious health issue concerning my eyes. As part of my confession, I have several well-known healing scriptures.

But look again at the passage in Proverbs. It doesn’t say that there are only particular scriptures that are life to those who find them. It also doesn’t say there are only particular scriptures that are health to our whole body.

It says that God’s Word is life to those that find it and health (or medicine) to our whole body. Not just particular scriptures, but all of God’s Word is life and health.

I am not taking God’s medicine only when I am reading and saying particular “health” scriptures. I am taking God’s medicine no matter where I am reading in His Word.

Therefore, I keep that in mind whenever I am reading or studying my Bible. Every word is life and health to me.

This new revelation has made me realize I am taking my medicine anytime I am reading scripture. I will also continue to meditate on and confess particular scriptures for healing several times a day. But I no longer limit my faith to just those few scriptures.
I now realize all of God’s Word provides life and health to me, not just those few scriptures I dwell on. This revelation has deepened my faith in healing tremendously.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father. I thank you for your Word and the power it holds. I thank you for it being life to me and health or medicine for my whole body. This new revelation of your Word is precious to me. I will use it to increase my faith to even greater levels. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I do not capitalize the name “satan” in my writing. He neither deserves the honor or respect that entails.
