But look, the Lord keeps his eye on those who fear him—those who depend on his faithful love. (Psalm 33:18 CSB)
As a small boy, when we were away from home, I remember how important it was to know my father was keeping his eye on me. As long as he was watching me, I knew nothing bad would happen. It always made me feel safer.
This verse from Psalms is telling us our Heavenly Father is keeping His eye on us. But this is for those who fear or revere the Lord and depend on His faithful love.
Not everyone that professes to be a Christian has a reverence for God. That is what it means to fear the Lord. It is a reverential fear and not a quaking afraid type of fear.
But the fear of the Lord is only one of the conditions that we must meet to qualify for this verse to happen in our life. You must also depend on His faithful love.
The word “depend” means to place your hope in. We place our hope in God’s faithful love. We build this hope in the Heavenly Father’s love by reading what He tells us of His love in His Word.
God expresses His faithful love through the covenant He has made with us through Jesus. A blood covenant that can’t be broken or changed.
Therefore, as you go about your day, keep in mind God has His eye on you. He never looks away. He is forever working on your behalf. God has His eye on you and this is not dependent on your perfection.
It is dependent only upon His great unbounding love for us. No matter what we have done, God still has His eye on us. He still sends His angels to work on our behalf.
As you go about your day, rest in the surety that God has His eye on you. Allow this to bring security and peace into your life, regardless of the raging chaos that fills our world.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you that you have your eye on me. I declare from my heart I fear you, the Lord my God. I depend on your faithful love every moment of every day. Thank you for watching over me and protecting me from the wiles and traps of the devil. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
